This is a relatively easy par four to get the golfer going. It was designed to help him warm up, to let his toast and coffee settle a bit, to avoid him straining his back by trying to swing to hard. It is not a pushover, however. I do not believe the first hole should be an easy birdie hole: that is too obvious, too condescending.
To me the first hole should be a classically straightforward introduction, like a well-trained butler opening the door to a palace. You would not want to climb an Everest of steps to the entrance, but no one needs a downhill ramp either.
Here you are politely and warmly welcomed through the portals of the course. Most of the mounds and trees are there to protect the driving range. I hope it is a gentle, pleasant and agreeable hole. By the way, it is also downwind.
