Hole Description
The first
hole of the award-winning Fazio designed course at Aberdeen Golf & Country
Club is a serene par 4 that allows you to ease into your round. That said, there is
an out of bounds right if you seriously slice it and an out of bounds left if you
really yank it. Drive your ball anywhere
near center and you’ll avoid the waste bunkers on the left and the fairway
bunkers on the right, putting you in the ideal position for a mid or short iron
into the two-tiered green. Guarded by
bunkers, a well-placed shot will avoid the grass bunkers located to the right
of the green and you’ll be on your way to starting off with a solid par, perhaps
even a birdie.

Hole Description
While tame
looking from the tee, beware that a long drive carrying 260 yards a bit right
might end up in the water hazard not visible from the tee. And a short drive pulled left will find you in
one of the two fairway bunkers, making par extremely difficult. An accurate tee shot is clearly the best way
to start this hole. An uphill second
shot to an undulating green plays longer than it looks. If the pin location is in the back, be
careful not to go over the green where an up and down will be extremely
difficult.

Hole Description
Aberdeen’s
first par 3 sets the stage for perhaps the best set of par 3s in Palm Beach
County. A mid to long iron, or even a
utility club, is required to reach the most undulating green on the
course. So putting your tee shot on the
green is just step one towards a par.
Two putting from any distance on this green will have your playing
partners giving you the thumbs up sign.

Hole Description
The par 5
fourth hole defines the golf term “risk vs. reward”. For the risk taker, playing both your drive
and second shot over a forced water carry allows you to cut 50 – 80 yards off
your third shot to the green. The
alternative is to play around the water hazard and leave yourself a much longer
third shot. The hole features a unique island
fairway where the risk taking player needs to hit his drive approximately 200
yards dead straight. The next shot from
the island over water is dictated by how much distance the player wishes to cut
off the hole. Two great shots will
leave the player with a short iron to the only true Biarritz green on the
course. The safer route is aiming your
drive left of the water and then keeping your second shot on the fairway, staying
away from the water on the right. Whether
you play it safe or take the riskier route, to all but the longest hitters,
this is a three shot hole to the green. Once there, navigating the Biarritz green will
require all your putting skills. Since
each full shot is going in a different direction, selecting the right club is
paramount. There’s nothing easy about
this beauty. Whether you par or double
bogey this hole, it is one you’ll never forget.

Hole Description
The longest par
4 on the course, this hole is also one of the most difficult. With
water down the entire right side, a drive with a slight fade is the optimum
shot off the tee. Your second shot into
the prevailing wind will require a hybrid or even a fairway wood in order to
reach a green which has a severe back-to-front slope. Two greenside bunkers protect the green on the
left and an errant shot to the right will find either water or multiple grass
bunkers requiring a delicate chip to save your par. Only a few players on any given day can say
they parred “the Two Beasts”, the 4th and 5th.

Hole Description
One of the
few doglegs on the course, this par 4 features fairway mounds framing the
entire right side of the hole. The water
on the right is only in play from the Championship tees. So, if you can, a draw off the tee is the
preferred shot, but make sure you keep the drive right of center. Going too far left may put you behind a
series of trees thus blocking your approach to an unguarded green. Finding yourself on one of the fairway grass
mounds, however, will put your short game to the test. The pitch shot from between 30 – 50 yards
needs to drop delicately near the pin or face a severe downhill putt whenever
the pin is located in the front.

Hole Description
A tight but
relatively short par 5, with out of bounds on the right and water and waste
bunkers on the left, the hole requires a straight tee shot. Because of the dangers on both sides,
something less than a driver off the tee should be considered. If you’re not long enough off the tee to go
for the green in two, the key decision on the second shot is to play either short
of the fairway bunker, about 40 yards in front of the green, or to the right or
left of it. Noting where the flag is
located will help you decide which side of the bunker to target. The third shot becomes extremely tricky, especially
when the flag is front or middle right. Aiming for the flag and missing it even a bit
right will result in the ball landing on the green and then gently rolling down
a gully until it finally stops 30 feet off the green. Once there, you’ve got a very tough up and
down to save par.

Hole Description
This near-island
green is the scariest par 3 on the course.
Faced with a tee shot entirely over water, the problem is selecting a
club long enough to reach the green but one that holds it upon landing. Before you hit this daunting tee shot, make
sure you look around and take in the beauty of the hole. The well-guarded green is surrounded by
bunkers and framed in the back by a series of beautiful palm trees. You may not walk away with a par, but you’ll
never forget this gem.

Hole Description
An uphill
par 4 that often plays longer than you think completes your journey on the
front nine. Lined with waste bunkers up
the entire left side and two well positioned traps that catch tee shots pushed
to the right, the hole requires a long straight shot off the tee. The position
of the flag will determine how aggressive your approach shot should be. When the flag is on the right, take dead
aim. A birdie is there for the
taking. But if the flag is on the left,
caution must reign. Six bunkers guard
the left side. Whether you miss short or
long, once you find a bunker, you’ll need a great recovery shot to salvage par.

Hole Description
The back
nine starts with a gentle dogleg left par 4.
Avoid the waste bunkers on the left side by hitting a draw off the tee. Then, either run the ball up to the green
since the front is not guarded, or play a high lofted club hoping for a birdie
putt. Be careful though. Pull your second shot left and a tad short and
your ball will likely trickle into the water hazard, changing a good shot at
par into a likely bogey or worse.

Hole Description
The length
of your tee shot is not as important as accuracy on this very tight but short
par 4. With water both right and left,
your tee shot must be center cut. So put
that driver away, and use a fairway wood or hybrid to give yourself a better
chance of staying on the fairway. The premier position on the drive is left
center, leaving you with a mid to short iron to a fairly open green. Play this
hole wisely and a tap in par or birdie is there for the taking.

Hole Description
A wide-open
fairway encourages you to take out the big stick and swing like John Daly on this
par 4 hole. Just be careful; a lone maple
tree sitting fifty yards ahead of the tee stands sentry over the right side and
may catch a mishit drive, dropping it straight down. When the wind is in your face, your second
shot playing uphill requires more club then the distance indicates. Playing towards the right side of the green
avoids the dangerous waste and sand bunker protecting the left side. Upon arriving on the green, subtle breaks
make it extremely hard to read every putt perfectly. Fortunately, practice makes perfect.

Hole Description
The longest
of the par 3’s, the 13th hole is both beautiful and deceptive. While the water to the right of the tee is mostly
cosmetic, except when playing from the Championship tees, the waste and sand
bunkers short and to the right of the green are very much in play, especially if
the player tries to play safe by avoiding the hazard area to the left. Walking away from this hole with a par should
make most players very happy.

Hole Description
The key to
this par 4 starts with your drive. Having
the narrowest landing area off the tee, this is perhaps the toughest driving
hole you’ll face. The shot requires that
you stay away from the fairway bunker on the right and at the same time, not
pull your shot into the bunker or water on the left. If you can thread the needle, you’re left with
a straight shot to the two-tired green, which incorporates the famous Rodan
design, sloping from front to back
and angled from front right to back left. Finally, don’t be fooled by the green’s false
front, or you’ll be left with a very difficult chip.

Hole Description
This par 4
hole has a much more generous landing area than appears from the tee, just
avoid pushing your drive short right into the fairway bunker and you’ll have a clear
shot to the green. The scoring key on
this hole is the accuracy of your approach shot to the green. Pull your shot left and into one of the
greenside bunkers and an up and down becomes unlikely. So if you’re going to miss, miss right,
leaving a relatively easy uphill chip shot to the severely sloped green.

Hole Description
While the
prevailing wind is typically blowing in, if you catch this hole on the right
day with the wind at you back, you’re looking at a chance for birdie. The long hitter can even think about putting
for eagle. If you favor a draw, start
your drive aiming at the trees framing the right side of the fairway and draw
your ball just short and to the right of the fairway bunker. If you favor a fade, you’ll need to aim at
the water and bring it back in. From
there you’ve got about 230 to the hole, so take your fairway wood out and give
it a rip. If you’re straight but a bit
short, you might find yourself in the pot bunker that fronts the green. Take care that any miss on your approach to the green is on the right. Pull it left and you’ll find a massive bunker
or worse, the canal. Once you’ve found
the green, which gradually slopes uphill from front to back, a solid putt will
earn you that birdie or par.

Hole Description
Don’t let
the shortest par 3 on the course fool you; looks can be very deceiving. What seems like a birdie hole can be
treacherous if you miss either short or long. Playing it too cute could result in your plunking
it in the water. If you just clear the
water but don’t reach the green, you will be faced with an awkward stance on a
very steep slope. Hit it long and your
tee shot will probably find the water behind the green. Yes, there’s water on three sides of this
simple looking hole. So pick the right
club, take dead aim, and knock it close.

Hole Description
Acclaimed by
many as the finest finishing hole in southern Florida, this magnificent par 5 snakes
itself between canals running up both sides of the fairway. The hole requires three near perfect shots to
reach the green. The drive affords you
an expansive landing area, so anywhere dry is mission accomplished. However, the aggressive line is left center
which then leaves you with a visually easier second shot. This second shot may be the most challenging
on the golf course. With water right and
left, the landing area becomes very narrow.
Be sure to hit a club in which you have confidence. Better to have a longer approach to the green
then take a penalty from the water hazard.
The green is only protected by one left front bunker, so you can run it
up or play the more traditional high iron shot. This green also features a
Biarritz-type design, but the indent of swale is much less than found on the
fourth hole. Whether you end your round
with a well-deserved par, bogey or worse, when you walk off the green you’ll
already be planning your next round at the beautiful Fazio course located at
Aberdeen Golf & Country Club.
